Sitting amidst the noisy market two women—one smoking—are so absorbed in conversation in a painting titled “Having a chat at the southern part of Beringharjo market”. In another painting, “Arisan”, a number of ladies are gathering in what looks like a dress-up competition.… for painter Mr. Bambang Herras, born March 9th, 1966 in Bojonegoro, East Java, an ISI* Fine Art Department 1993 graduate, every instance of Indonesian common life is material for his art. You can also glimpse misery caused by natural disaster through “In The Refugees Camp”, “In The Line of Queue” and “Encountering”. They obviously call to mind the disaster of last year, the Asian earthquake and tsunami. “I want to catch every aspect of social and human problems around us”, he says.
